Dungeons and Dragons Font: The 5e Book Fonts, the Logo + Free Alternatives
What font does D&D use? The 5e books use Bookmania, Mrs Eaves and Scala Sans; free look-alikes (Bookinsanity, Mr Eaves, Scaly Sans) power Homebrewery. Plus the logo and free fantasy fonts for campaign titles.

The D&D 5th edition books use commercial fonts: Bookmania for body text, Mrs Eaves Small Caps for headings, Scala Sans for tables and Modesto for titles. Homebrewery and most fan supplements use free look-alikes made by the community: Bookinsanity, Mr Eaves, Scaly Sans and Nodesto. The Dungeons & Dragons logo itself is custom lettering, not a font.
Below: the full list of 5e fonts and their free replacements, what you can do with them, and free fantasy fonts for campaign titles, maps and handouts.

1. The Free 5e Fonts (Solbera)
The look-alikes were made by a fan known as Solbera, with fixes from other members of the community. They are released under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0: you can use them in your homebrew, including projects you sell, but you cannot sell the fonts themselves.
They are the reason a homebrew PDF can look like an official sourcebook. Homebrewery loads them by default; for Word, Affinity or InDesign, install the files yourself.
Want the originals?
Bookmania (Mark Simonson Studio), Mrs Eaves (Emigre) and Scala Sans (FontFont, now Monotype) are commercial fonts. If you publish a commercial supplement with a professional layout, buying them is the clean option.
2. The Dungeons & Dragons Logo Font
The current logo (since 2014) is custom lettering: the dragon ampersand was drawn by Glitschka Studios and the wordmark by Hasbro's in-house team. There is no font that reproduces it, and the logo is a trademark, so do not use it on anything you sell or anything that looks official.
For your own campaign or adventure title, use a font with a similar weight and feel instead, like the ones below.
3. Free Fantasy Fonts for Campaign Titles and Handouts
These come from our own RuneType collection: original designs, free for personal use, with uppercase, lowercase, numbers and punctuation. Good for campaign logos, character sheets, maps, session recaps and VTT tokens.
Kelthorn: campaign and adventure titles

Rounded uncial letters that look at home on an adventure cover or a tavern sign.
Sablecrown: chapter headings

A sharp medieval serif that stays readable in longer lines, close to the role Mrs Eaves plays in the books.
Thornfall: boss names and dungeon titles

Heavy, spiked capitals for villain reveals, dungeon maps and one-shot posters.
Cairnhold: dwarves, forges and northern clans

Tips for D&D Homebrew Typography
- Use one display font, not three. A campaign title font plus Bookinsanity for text already looks like a published book.
- Keep stat blocks plain. Players scan them mid-combat; a decorative font there slows the game down.
- Need icons for spells, items or conditions? Our RPG icon packs come as SVG and PNG and recolour easily for VTTs.
FAQ

What font does Homebrewery use?

Can I use D&D fonts in a product I sell?
